PCCFA would like to welcome you back to Spring ’19. The New Year has brought some major changes to PCC that will affect all of us as we move forward. The Faculty Association would like to extend a warm welcome to Dr. Erica Endrijonas who was selected Superintendent/President in January. Ms. Endrijonas came to PCC from Los Angeles Valley College where she served as President for 4 years. The FA looks forward to a long productive relationship with Ms. Endrijonas.

PCC this spring was affected by a state-wide drop in enrollment. PCC has been ahead of the curve re: enrollments, but that trend is now hitting PCC. According to Dr. Guigni, enrollments are down about 1700 compared to spring of last year–this translates into about 220 FTE’s. Unfortunately this is caused a ripple effect for faculty in class cancellations. In turn this has caused some scheduling issues that have had to be addressed by the FA with the administration. If you have been affected by this and have any questions about how it should be handled please contact us so we can look into it for you.

As we continue through the Spring semester we will begin negotiating a new contract for faculty. Our current contract expires June 30, 2019. We will keep you updated on our progress as we begin negotiations. As before, it is our goal to negotiate a fair and beneficial contract for all faculty. If you are interested in seeing the scope of our negotiations, read in this newsletter our sunshine document that is presented to the college.

We would like to congratulate educators in Modesto and at L.A. Unified for their successful labor actions. It is very refreshing to see our colleagues effectively advocate for change in spite of a rather strained labor climate around the country.

The FA will present at the upcoming Faculty Development Day on March 14th. The presentation will cover specific parts of the contract and how it affects student success. It will be an informal session were we will answer any questions you may have regarding the contract. All faculty are welcome.

As usual, I would like to remind all of you that the FA is always available to answer any questions you may have about the contract. Feel free to contact any of us if you are faced with an unusual situation, or you just have questions. We will see you at our first general meeting on Mar 21st.

Have great and productive semester!

Mark Whitworth — President PCCFA
