Why An Independent Union Matters

When your union dues are being turned over to a national union, that’s not independence. An independent voice must maintain its dues and have control over prioritizing local issues for its members over the choices of national unions.

As an independent union, your sole bargaining unit, the PCCFA:

  1. Gives members a voice in shaping their union community at PCC
  2. Uses dues to address local needs and concerns, like supporting union-advocate PCC Board of Trustees members in BOT elections
  3. Hires our own legal representation to push back on administrative contract violations and win PERB decisions like the recent Calendar – Winter Intercession lawsuit with back pay negotiations
  4. Provides 24/7 local grievance representation with trained, democratically-elected board members available to advocate for salary scale placement, ensure priority rehire list compliance, and fair evaluation procedures for all faculty
  5. Works at the state-wide level to sponsor and co-sponsor legislation that has a direct and positive impact on our local members and to represent the “independent voice” at the Chancellor’s office
  6. Bargains in contract negotiations from a position of knowledge and solidarity to ensure the best working conditions for our members, like superior COVID safety protocols, a 12% raise over two years, distance education opportunities that are fair and that make sense for our faculty, and health care for our part time faculty

We don’t want to give up the independence we fought so hard for 16 years ago!

We need you to #StayPCCFA and #VotePCCFA on the Decertification Ballot!
