Memorandum of Understanding – Return to Campus for Fall 2021 (Updated August 3, 2021)
Due to the COVID pandemic being a serious threat to public health, PCC’s campus reopening plans have substantially changed. Linked at the bottom of the page, you will find the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Faculty Association and PCCCD. We were able to secure some important safeguards for faculty at PCC. Please be aware that we were able to move the district from a 100% reopening to a safer and more reasonable plan.
- First and foremost, the District shall follow all of the county, state and city mandates.
- Immediately, all classes at PCC that can be moved to an online format will be transitioned. The only classes that will remain on campus are those that cannot be transitioned to online, due to the nature of the class or the lack of a Form D addendum.
- If a class is not able to be transitioned, it will be capped at a maximum of 50% capacity.
- Any faculty member that wishes to remain in a face-to-face format will be able to do so. Contact your dean if you want to do this.
- For counselors, on-campus time will be reduced from 5 days per week to 4 days per week. Counseling work on campus will be up to 50% remote.
- All classrooms and offices or other workspaces shall have appropriate ventilation. Any classroom you are assigned should have a HEPA air purifier, as should individual offices.
- All faculty staff and students will be required to be vaccinated, subject to legal exemptions. For faculty, the deadline is Sept 30th. For students, it will be the first census date.
- All persons entering the campus will be required to wear a mask at all times in indoor spaces.
- All room and building capacities will be capped at 50%, including, but not limited to, the support centers and library.
- The District shall make every effort to provide on-campus vaccine clinics before and during the Fall semester. The FA encourages every member of our campus community to become vaccinated.
- Faculty may schedule all office hours remotely. As well, all faculty may choose to participate in institutional and professional activities in a remote format.
- There will be an increase in paid part-time advisement hours as in the Fall of 2020.
- The district will provide an additional 56 hours of COVID leave, if necessary. This will bring the total leave available to 136 hours if needed.
- The District has agreed to negotiate Part-time health benefits immediately, which has been long overdue.
Though this agreement is far from perfect, its safeguards enhance the safety of all PCC faculty, staff, and students. Should the situation change, this agreement can and will be revisited.
