FACT CHECK: The Faculty Association and Part-Time Representation

Dear Colleagues,

You may have received information that once again is misleading.  The PCC Faculty Association has always and will always fight for part-time faculty rights.

MORE FALSE AND MISLEADING INFORMATION.

  • Misleading and incorrect information has been released that the PCCFA turned down a healthcare proposal in favor of more money for full-time faculty.  This is not true! The PCCFA would never turn down and has never turned down a health care proposal for part-time faculty in favor of more money for full-time faculty.
  • As far as healthcare, the PCCFA has fought many battles with a district that for years has expressed “no interest” in healthcare for part-time faculty.  This time, with the lead of our part-time Vice-President Beville Constantine, we will succeed in pushing the district to offer a decent plan for part-time faculty.
  • This will also be in large part due to three new Board of Trustees (unprecedented in PCC’s history) whom the PCCFA supported.  The FA made significant financial donations to all three of those campaigns.  Our former and recently retired (as of this last spring) Vice-President, Mary-Erin Crook, organized campaigns and recruited many volunteers in those successful races.  Part-time health care is one of our most important issues, and we will fight hard to succeed.

OTHER PCCFA GAINS AND CONTINUED NEGOTIATIONS FOR PART-TIME FACULTY

  • The PCC Faculty Association has successfully negotiated raises that always include a higher percentage increase for part-time faculty with the goal of achieving parity (Part-time parity, therefore, is defined as 87.5% of the responsibilities of a contract faculty member. Part-time faculty members are not responsible for college service.)
  • The PCCFA successfully negotiated paid office hours for part-time faculty and is currently negotiating 16 paid office hours per semester (double the current 8 paid office hours)
  • The PCCFA successfully negotiated paid “online advisement hours” during the pandemic for  part-time faculty.
  • The PCCFA successfully negotiated seniority rehire rights for part-time faculty and is currently negotiating to strengthen already existing rehire rights for all part-time faculty – instructional, noninstructional, credit, and non-credit.

Your PCCFA serves the needs of all faculty at PCC!

Please read negotiations updates and proposals posted at our website at pccfacultyassociation.org.  Finally, please note that all official communications from the PCCFA will only come from the following two email addresses: facultyassociation@pasadena.edu or facultyassociation@gmail.com.
