Good work to faculty for standing up for shared governance!
Decompressing the Carnegie hour is off the table thanks to the”lack of support and consensus ” that the faculty and staff showed at last semester’s town hall meetings. Listen here and here.
What’s next?
The Administration is at it again, this time with the 2013-2014 Calendar. Seems that a “roll-over calendar” is on the table , according to a recent Courier article. What’s a “roll-over calendar”, you ask? It’s one that is handed down by the Board of Trustees to be rubber-stamped by the Calendar Committee; however, concerned faculty and students eloquently challenged the Committee Co-chair VP Bob Bell as he persisted in trying to convince the Committee that this next calendar needs expediting because of the implementation of the Banner platform. Listen to the transcript of the Calendar Committee to hear how it played out.
“The absence of a winter session on the proposed calendar ignited passionate discussion from committee members and other attendees alike” – Courier
Let’s continue to give each other the support we need to continue upholding shared governance so that “student success” is no longer a buzz word but a reality!
- Go to the Board of Trustees meeting on Wed. February 6 and speak during public comment. This shows the Board that faculty are not absent from the conversation.
- Regularly email or talk to the faculty participating in committees and your senators.
- Stay informed and active by attending campus-wide meetings, including the next FA meeting on February 21, 12pm, Circadian.
